Mini UK has sold its allocation of the new Cooper S with John Cooper Works GP kit in advance of its on sale date next month.

Mini will build 2,000 extra versions of the model to meet global demand.

Originally, just 444 GPs were available for UK customers, but Mini UK has managed to secure another 15.

Mini will present the first Mini GP – numbered 0001 on the roof – at the 2006 British International Motor Show in just over a month at London’s Docklands.

The two-seater Mini GP – available in thunder blue metallic paintwork with pure silver roof - gives a power output of 218bhp and weighs approximately 40 kilos less than a standard Cooper S. The GP reaches 0-62mph in under 6.5 seconds with a top speed of 146mph.

The GP is priced at £22,000 and features JCW 18-inch alloy wheels, DSC, multi-function steering wheel, air-conditioning and Recaro sports seats as standard.
