Bedlington Motor Company has been confirmed as the first tenant at the Vroom car village development in Silverlink, North Tyneside.

The £10m European-style retail park has space for eight motoring businesses and hopes to attract a mixture of local, franchised and independent dealers.

“We chose to move there because of the good central location,” says Paul Stevenson of Bedlington Motor Company, an independent retailer.

“We will be moving our existing outlets, at Tynemouth and Bedlington, to the park where we will specialize in premium German brands such as Porsche, Audi, BMW and Mercedes.”

Stevenson says he will have up to 100 cars on display and hopes to sell 1,000 models in his first year.

AM understands that Gosforth Park Motor Company and Northern 4x4 have also leased plots at the retail park.

“There are four spaces left for motor retailers to take advantage of,” says Duncan McGregor, managing director at Circle Red Properties, the developer of the property.

He says that Circle Red Properties is already looking at more sites in Sheffield and Edinburgh where further motoring villages can be built.

“The concept is based on retail centres in France and Belgium, where they are a great success,” says McGregor. “Eventually we hope to roll them out nationwide at high-density retail locations.”
