10% of Honda sales to be hybrids by 2010

Honda president Takeo Fukui has announced that 10% of the carmaker’s sales will be hybrids by 2010, and is launching two models to help boost sales.

The Civic Hybrid will be joined by the Global Hybrid in 2009, and a hybrid sports car is planned based on the CR-Z concept unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show.

Honda’s European car sales for 2007 are forecast at 380,000 units, a 23% increase over 2006. Production at the UK plant reached full capacity at 250,000 units.

The company is planning an 11% sales increase during 2008.
