January 2007 was the busiest month for new car model and variant introductions for three years, according to CAP’s database of new vehicle pricing and technical information.

There where 443 new cars available to buyers in the first four weeks of this year. That is a 33% increase on the new car market activity of January last year.

The new car surge was led by BMW which introduced 232 new model variants, including a facelifted 5-series, 1-series and the new hard top 3-series convertible – which represented nearly 53% of the total.

Mercedes-Benz followed, introducing 43 new model variants, with Ford in third place on 42 new variants.

CAP new vehicle data reveals January 2007 to be the busiest month for new model introductions since February 2004 when 452 newly available cars were entered onto the database.
