AM retailer of the year Phoenix Car Company has acquired Glasgow-based Hyndland Honda from James Henry & Sons.

The Dunbarton Road site will join Phoenix’s Paisley, Grangemouth and Stirling Honda dealerships. The deal was brokered by Trevor Jones’ Dealermatch service.

The Hyndland Honda name will change to Phoenix Honda Hyndland and is expected to add £30 million to the company’s business over the next 12 months.

John McGuire, Phoenix managing director, said: “It’s going to be an exciting year for Phoenix. We will be expanding further and opportunities are becoming available all the time.

“The only thing standing in our way is making sure that we’ve got the right people trained to take on any businesses we acquire.

“We have a brilliant graduate training programme which is working really well for us and there are several candidates that are eager to take on some more responsibility.”

McGuire wants to raise Phoenix’s turnover to £160m this year, compared to the £117m it made last year and sell 7,000 this year (3,000 new, 4,000 used).

Phoenix grew by 35% last year, and McGuire expects to grow organically and via more acquisitions to at least the same level this year.

“We started working with Honda in 1993 and we’re still attracted to the company now for the same reasons as back then.

“We like their brand values, they’re ambitious and they attract so many customers because of the reputation for producing highly reliable cars.”
