Tyresafe, the not-for-profit organisation raising awareness of tyre defects and failures to motorists, is urging the trade to get behind its Tyre Safety Month in October.

It is urging workshops to download free promotional material, including posters and press release templates, from its website.

Garages are also encouraged to offer free tyre checks during October, which provide an opportunity for customer goodwill as an added-value service and also could lead to incremental sales.
Other suggestions from Tyresafe include hosting an event at a shopping centre or car park which are targeted to family customers or mobile checks for local business fleets.

Defective tyres and wheels accounted for a fifth of MoT failures in 2007, according to statistics from VOSA.

Rob Beddis, Tyresafe’s chairman, said: “Building on the success of last year’s Tyre Safety Month, we would encourage the tyre trade to show the same enthusiasm this year to help consumers understand the dangers of under and over-inflated tyres.

“There are plenty of opportunities for the trade to get involved and show their support.”
