Law: Consumer Direct reports second hand car sales by independents are still highest for the second year running

Consumer Direct the Government agency which now deals with the vast majority of consumer complaints previously taken by Trading Standards, recently reported 41,880 complaints during 2007 in relation to second hand car sales from independent retailers.

There were a further 13,332 about second hand cars from franchised dealers.

Independent garage repairs came in at 15,253.

In context the top 10 areas of complaint were.

2. Mobile phone service agreements 34,679
3. TV’s 19,744
4. Mobile phone hardware 17,760
5. Personal goods and services 16,976
6. General building work 15,598
7. Independent garage repairs 15,253
8. Upholstered furniture 14,024
9. Internet service providers 13,536
10. Used cars bought from franchises 13,332

Consumer Direct reported that more than half who used their service received refunds, repairs, replacements of over £100 each on average.
