Consumer Direct the Government agency which now deals with the vast majority of consumer complaints previously taken by Trading Standards, recently reported 41,880 complaints during 2007 in relation to second hand car sales from independent retailers.

There were a further 13,332 about second hand cars from franchised dealers.

Independent garage repairs came in at 15,253.

Consumer Direct reported that more than half who used their service received refunds, repairs, replacements of over £100 each on average.
