Dealers are showing their commitment to reducing carbon emissions, providing clear information to consumers about their new car, according to the SMMT.

Speaking at the British International Motor Show, SMMT chief executive Paul Everitt praised the motor trader for helping buyers to reduce their carbon footprint.

Research carried out by the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership in June found 93% were displaying colour-coded carbon emissions labels on vehicles in the showroom, despite the scheme being voluntary.

Everitt commented: “The motor industry is the most honest and transparent sector when it comes to reporting environmental performance.

“We have cut average new car tailpipe CO2 by more than 13% in the last decade and over the first half of 2008 it has fallen by a further 3%.”
