Adrian Pitts, General Manager, Renault Retail Group.

How did you get into the automotive business?
I was in selling door-to-door and had friends that were in the used car business. When the opportunity arose to sell cars from a franchised dealership I took it.

What does your job entail?
I manage my department managers and their teams, the marketing and promotion and the commerciality and profitability of my dealership.

How will your job change over the next few years?
Understanding and adapting to the changing market place for new car sales, used car sales and, of course, aftersales is going to play a large part in its success.

Other jobs?
Butcher (from school) and then the sales bug got me.

What advice would you give someone planning to join the industry?
Attain the highest level of education possible and use that learning ability to grow.

What’s the worst career move you’ve ever made?
I don’t have regrets.

And the best?
My current role, obviously.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time?
In a regional role or working for the group in a specialist area.
