The RMIF’s Independent Garage Association (IGA) is turning its attention to garages to make sure they are properly equipped to benefit from the long term effects of the scrappage scheme.

Jonas Zambakides, IGA chairman, said: “The scrappage scheme has had an extremely positive impact on the motor industry as a whole; but the priority for the RMIF must now be to work with the independent garages to ensure they are properly equipped to benefit from the longer term results of the scheme.

"We must turn our attention to support our IGA members so they can reap the benefits from the current car market.”

Zambakides believes the key for independents is assurance of access to technical information to allow garages to repair the new vehicles coming into the market.

He said: “We must focus all our efforts on seeking delivery of this crucial element for the independents.

“Access will be decided in Europe so we will be continuing our support for the independent garages in Brussels.”
