Hodgson Toyota in Gateshead is trialling a new ‘eco scheme’ in partnership with Search2Drive which will offer driver training to maximise efficiency behind the wheel.

Hodgson Toyota has covered the cost of the initial tests and has provided a selection of its customers with a voucher inviting them to participate in the scheme.

Customers can then log onto the Search2Drive website and register their details. A driving instructor with specialist knowledge in their particular Toyota car will be assigned to them for a convenient day and time.

The lesson will cover road positioning, gear changing right through to preparing for roundabouts, and braking techniques.

David Lowes, group general manager of Hodgson, said: "We are conducting this research initially to see what the uptake would be with our customers and to show the actual benefits.

"We are confident that it will be a success and we will then be able to offer this scheme at a reduced cost to our customers as part of their package when buying a car from us."
