While Ford was dealing with scrappage issues in the UK yesterday, its parent company in the US had its own problems as it was inundated with calls from people who had received a hoax email offering one of its models for an especially cheap price.

The fake email offered its hybrid Ford Fusion model for $15,500, when it normally retails at $27,270.

The company quickly put out a clarification on its website.

“Sorry, this is one offer that is too good to be true,” it said.
