The carmaker McLaren hopes to set up a high-tech production facility which will create more than 800 automotive jobs.

The centre for its new range of sports model will be built next to its existing factory in Woking, Surrey, if planning permission is given.

If the building goes ahead, the first vehicle – an efficient, high performance sports car – is expected to be ready for delivery in early 2011.

Ron Dennis, the chairman of McLaren Automotive, said: “If the McLaren Production Centre is given the go-ahead, it will be an engineering centre of excellent of which McLaren and the UK can be proud.”
