Renault will mass market affordable electric vehicles from 2011.

Its prototype electric vehicle, Kangoo be bop Z.E. (Zero Emission), has a range of 100km and uses lithium-ion batteries and brake energy recovery system.

The same technology is currently under development for its upcoming production electric vehicles.

Kangoo be bop Z.E has low-energy LED (light-emitting diode) front and rear lighting to optimise energy use.

The car's aerodynamics have also been reworked to reduce energy consumption.

Linear displays on the outside of Kangoo be bop Z.E.'s doors show how much charge is left in the battery by activating the remote central locking control.

Inside, a gauge to the left of the instrument panel provides the driver with a permanent indication of how much battery charge remains.
