Independent workshops will be able to better compete on
transmission replacements for premium brand cars following a development by ZF Great Britain.

The transmission specialist this month announced it will directly supply the independent aftermarket with fully remanufactured ZF five- and six-speed automatic transmissions for a wide range of ageing BMW, Jaguar and Land Rover models.

Graham Truckel, managing director of ZF GB, said: “These are rebuilt from the ground up and then tested so that our aftermarket partners can address with confidence the growing gap in the market for an alternative solution for prestige out of warranty marques whose owners still want the real deal, but at more affordable prices.”

Truckel said it would target out-of-warranty vehicles to give non-franchised garages the opportunity of supplying and fitting complete factory-quality transmission units with a 12-month/50,000 mile warranty.

“Key benefits to workshops and repairers include significant time and money savings resulting in attractive profit margin opportunities,” he added.

“There is no longer the time consuming task of fault finding, nor the subsequent reliance on deliveries of replacement parts from multiple suppliers, resulting in faster job turnaround times.”

The company recently invested £2.5 million in new production, warehouse and test facilities in Nottingham.
