Repairs to the 180,865 Toyota models recalled across the UK has started today at 206 approved repairers.

Toyota said all technicians have had specific training to repair the cars and it is expecting all of the cars which have been affected to be repaired "in a matter of weeks" due to service centres extending opening hours.

Toyota has also confirmed that its UK dealers have the correct software to update the Prius brake system.

Steve Settle, Toyota GB customer services director said: "Toyota service centres will be working extended hours and weekends.

"As a consequence, they have the combined capacity to repair 6,000 vehicles per day. By Friday we will have received 100,000 repair parts from Japan. We have implemented the recall as quickly as possible."
