More people than ever are now using a mobile to access the internet, especially when searching for a used car, according to UK Web Sites.

Research from the European Interactive Advertising Association Mediascope Europe Study this year showed that overall, 10 million people in the UK browse the mobile internet in a typical week, with almost an hour a day actively spent going online via their mobile (6.3 hours per week).

In other sectors, British businesses are continuing to increase their spend on mobile marketing initiatives, it has been reported. Research carried out by the Internet Advertising Bureau found that spending on this area of marketing increased by 32% over the course of 2009.

The study also found that smart phone usage is growing at a faster rate in the UK than anywhere else in Europe.

Rob Queen, group marketing manager at automotive media company UK Web Sites, said: “When it comes to mobile websites, simplicity is key. Because of the lack of space on the screen and internet connections that are often slower, it’s important for visitors to have access to what is most crucial and as little else as possible.

“Customers accessing dealer stock lists online are not that interested in peripheral advertising or information. They only require the screen to assimilate the vehicle details page in high resolution, with a quick download speed that is easily readable.”
