A driver who crashed into the Stafford Volkswagen dealership and caused thousands of pounds of damage to two cars on its forecourt has received a suspended jail sentence in court.

Stephen Kroll was joyriding with friends in his aunt’s BMW on September 5 when it plunged down an embankment onto the dealership’s cars.

A Jetta was written off and a Golf was considerably damaged.

Kroll, of Berry Road, Stafford, admitted aggravated vehicle taking, failing to stop and failing to report an accident and driving without insurance.

He was sentenced to four months jail, suspended for two years, a three month curfew, banned from driving for a year and ordered to do 200 hours unpaid community work.

In mitigation, the court was told the reason Kroll had lost control of the car, and ran off from the scene because he panicked.
