The Government has pledged £20 million specifically to aid businesses that have been damaged by the recent UK riots and looting.

The money will be put aside for councils to lower business rates and to pay for repairs. Businesses that have been badly affected will be able to apply for funding to replace damaged equipment.

Businesses that want to make a claim must do so with their insurer under the Riot Damages Act.

Prime Minister David Cameron said: “Any individual, homeowner or business that has suffered damage to or loss of their buildings or property as a result of rioting can seek compensation under the Riot Damages Act, even if uninsured."

The £20m is just part of the £230m total set aside by the Government to tackle the damage from the riots.
