A proposal for a £9.5m Volkswagen Group UK brand centre has got local councillors heated up over the jobs it will create.

VW Group UK wants the development on a former factory site at Llandudno Junction to house retailer CJ Automotive, which would operate a multi-brand 'retail plaza' featuring Audi, Seat, Skoda, VW cars and VW Commercial Vehicle franchises.

It would include businesses relocated from Abergele and Anglesey.

CJ Automotive managing director Ian Rutter hopes the business would employ at least 125 people and up to 200. His VW business in Warrington already employs 110 people.

But Conwy County Councillor Meirion Hughes plans to object, claiming the property is of a scale that, if used for other developments, it could host businesses that could create up to 660 jobs.
