AM100 retailer Holdcroft Motor Group has secured planning approval to transform part of its head office site into a dedicated EV space, along with facilities for servicing and parts.

The plans involve repurposing an area at the business’ Hanley head office which will see the ground floor - currently used as a 12-bay valeting area - become a new showroom.

A statement submitted with the planning application explained that the demand for a large-scale valeting facility has declined, as individual dealerships now handle a significant share of the preparation work. Seven staff members will now be redeployed to neighbouring Holdcroft sites.

According to the company, a reduced four-to-five bay facility will be sufficient for ongoing service operations at the Leek Road head office location.

While Holdcroft has not yet confirmed which EV brand will occupy the new showroom, Stoke on Trent Live understands that several Chinese EV brands are exploring opportunities to partner with the business across North Staffordshire, the North West, and the West Midlands.

The group, founded in 1966 by Terry Holdcroft in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, has grown to operate a wide range of dealerships, including Hyundai, Honda, Renault, Nissan, Dacia, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Volvo, and Isuzu.

The company reported a 2023 turnover increase from £659.9m to £750.2m, meaning its now ranks 27th in the AM100 index of the UK’s largest dealerships.
