It’s fair to say that working in the automotive business and selling cars isn’t going to propel you to the top of the greenest business list.

However it is important that all businesses do their bit to reduce their carbon footprint and at Manheim we have a team of people dedicated to doing just that, be it; careful disposal of hazardous material, recycling at every opportunity or looking at ways to reduce the total journey mileage of our transporters.

What’s more Manheim are proud of the work our partners do to support us in our goals and we were delighted to learn that PJM Valeting achieved five stars with Green Achiever.

The Green Achiever

PJM Valeting were catapulted into the top bracket by Green Achiever, with the award of a 5-star rating, for their continued environmental efforts over the past 12 months. The introduction of timed temperature controlled pressure washers for clients, implemented at Manheim sites nationwide, have not only reduced heat energy but also given a fuel reduction of over 25% for PJM Valeting as a group.

As Manheim’s preferred supplier, many of PJM Valeting’s environmental credentials are visible at all sites across Manheim and we have worked together to manage the many environmental issues we all need to take responsible action for including implementing water meters and driving to nationwide ISO 14001 Certification which began back in 2010 which seen Manheim successfully retain its leadership position within the vehicle remarketing sector by being awarded ISO 14001 Certification at their very first attempt.

Improved recycling

PJM worked directly with Manheim’s very own Group Risk Manager Pete Lacey, who drove Manheim`s very high recycling targets which saw a strong response across all Manheim sites with an impressive group average of 30% recycling being implemented during 2012. Manheim’s ISO 14001 certification process has also aided the business in reducing its “Environmental Impact and Carbon Footprint”, along with reducing wastage from its processes and dramatically increasing its recycling rates.

Pete Lacey, added further: We now have a greater environmental compliance level at each location, a higher level of corporate responsibility and an International Standard in place that helps Manheim Remarketing meet the expectations of all our Vendors and Customers alike”

Reward and recognition

Debbie Cairns from Green Achiever recognised the achievements by saying “PJM Valeting’s commitment to reducing their impact on the environment was clear in 2011 when they received 4 stars. Not being complacent, the Directors of PJM have actively pursued new opportunities to improve their performance further still and we’re really pleased to grade them with the 5-star rating. It’s good to be associated with this sort of responsible and environmentally ambitious company.”

So the good work is going on and the next time you look at one of your sparkling purchases it will be green as well as clean.
