An employment tribunal has ruled that a franchised dealership unfairly dismissed a 64-year-old employee due to his age.
Michael Nolan was a service team leader at Evans Halshaw Ford in Worksop, part of Pendragon plc, when he was dismissed in a round of redundancies last February.
A tribunal ruled the dismissal was unfair after hearing Nolan had been put in a redundancy "pool of one", that his boss dealer principal David Heeley had previously made comments about his age and had asked him to swap jobs with a younger member of staff.
Because that younger member of staff had not been in the redundancy pool, Nolan had been discriminated against, the tribunal found.
