A rigorous semi-final set of fault-finding tests has refined the 'Top Technician 2013' field of entrants down to the last six competitors.

With the lure of a record £18,000 first prize package to spur them on, they now have just four weeks to hone their skills and knowledge before facing the final six intensive, one hour practical tests at the Honda Institute, Slough on April 26.

The six 2013 finalists are:

Jerry Carroll of Carroll's Garage, Paisley, Scotland
Lee Collins of Kwik Fit Group, Greater Manchester
Ainsley McEwan of McEwan's Garage, Derby
Richard McVeigh of Kwik Fit, Lichfield, Staffs
Steve Smith of Hills Toyota, Woodford Green, Essex
Andrew West of Erme Valley Autos, Ivybridge, Devon

"Open as always to experienced technicians working in any sector of the UK vehicle servicing industry, 'Top Technician 2013' has produced a very representative combatant's line-up of problem-solvers from independent workshops, franchised dealership and fast fit enterprises. There's always huge rivalry to see which sector will come out on top," said competition organiser Nicola St Clair.

The annual Top Technician competition is organised in partnership with the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), whose Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA) arm is responsible for devising and adjudicating the tests under the auspices of the chief Top Technician judge, Ian Gillgrass.

The winner of the prestigious Top Technician 2013 trophy will be announced at the Top Technician Live training seminar to be held at Mercedes-Benz World, Brooklands, Surrey on May 17.
