Compact SUVs have proven somewhat popular in the UK, not just because they get the chunky looks and high driving position associated with larger 4x4s, but also because they can be as cheap to run as a typical family hatchback due to their smaller capacity engines and front-wheel drive.

Used car experts agree that the Nissan Qashqai remains the best investment for dealers seeking an in-demand, fast-turning mainstream SUV to fill a space on the forecourt.

The used market continues to present this model in increasing numbers, with an ever wider choice of specifications and engines due to the popularity of this car as a new purchase since its launch in 2007. Retail demand is increasing in line with this supply and this explains the stability of used model prices.

Most customers buying a used Qashqai are trading up from traditional hatchbacks in the lower and upper medium sectors. It is really a small family car in disguise, but it sits taller and has more ground clearance, ensuring plenty of cabin space, a roomy boot and a commanding view. It also has the chunky looks SUV buyers seek, but is cheaper to buy and maintain than a

traditional 4x4.

The Qashqai sports the latest infotainment technology, safety kit and frugal engines. The entry-level Visia trim version is well equipped, but the Acenta adds climate control, a CD multi-changer and parking sensors to the standard Qashqai's air-conditioning, alloy wheels and Bluetooth phone connectivity.

On top of all the features and benefits, sales executives have more good news to share with prospective buyers, as the Qashqai’s popularity provides it with fairly strong residuals and it comes with a five-star NCAP rating and superb reliability record. A new model this year will ensure a steady supply of quality trade-ins to feed the used car market.
