Rebecca Heeley, academy manager at Hyundai UK, has been responsible for retailer training at the Korean brand since 2008, when its UK new car sales were almost a third of what they are now.

“That we’ve been successful in our sales growth is due to our dealer network and people development is an enormous part of that,” she said.

The academy provides training programmes for apprentices, in technical, parts and customer service roles, and sales staff through to management development programmes for dealer principals. Calculating a precise return on investment from training is hard to measure, however performance improvements, customer satisfaction and retention of talent can be good indicators.
