Mazda has launched its fourth-generation Mazda MX-5 at three simultaneous events in Barcelona, Japan and the US. It will go on sale in Europe in 2015.

The new MX-5 comes with Mazda's fuel-efficient Skyactiv technology and weighs 100kg less than the outgoing model.

More than 947,000 MX-5s have been produced since its launch in 1989 and it holds the Guinness World Record for the all-time bestselling two-seater sports car.

“Mazda’s current winning streak is driven by our highly acclaimed new models, and the all-new MX-5 should only add fuel to the growth engine,” said Jeff Guyton, Mazda Motor Europe president and chief executive.

“Built for the love of driving, this car underscores what Mazda is all about. It will certainly give our brand an added boost.”

The unveiling was streamed live in Barcelona (see below) and the event also marked the debut of Mazda Space, the company’s brand-new European event hub in the Catalonian capital.
