Volkswagen is suspending the sale of about 4,000 cars and commercial vehicles in the UK.

This number represents about 3% of all new vehicle stock in the UK and some will already be with dealers.

The company said the vehicles - all Euro 5 diesels -  may be equipped with the device that cheated emissions tests in the United States.

The move involves vehicles in the five VW Group brands including VW cars and commercial vehicles and Audi, Skoda and Seat cars.

VW plans to return the vehicles for sale once a fix is identified for the cars. The company was unable to say how long the withdrawal and fix would take.
