Swansway’s latest new-build centre has broken ground on Bumpers Lane, Chester, representing a £4 million investment in the area by the car dealer.

The group already owns and operates Swansway Chester Peugeot on Sealand Road and the new site around the corner means the group will expand its Fiat and Citroën centre currently located in Huntington.

Swansway Chester operations director Andrew Wakelin said: “We bought the existing Fiat/Citroën site from Hartwells and have been operating from there, while we looked around for a new site to invest in. The Bumpers Lane location is ideal and the centre will be ready to open in March 2016.”

Half the site will house Swansway’s first Fiat brand centre and bring the Alfa Romeo brand to Chester, alongside the existing Fiat, Abarth and Jeep brands; the other half will house the Citroën brand along with a DS lounge, a new concept to display the exciting DS range.

The £4m investment is part of an overall £12 million which Swansway are investing in new-build centres in the North West this year.

The group’s Honda site on Queensway in Rochdale is to be demolished and re-developed into a new Honda centre and Volkswagen Van Centre serving Manchester North.

Swansway will also develop a new-build Van Centre on the site. In Crewe another new-build centre is underway, Swansway’s first Jaguar dealership, costing £4.5m.
