A Ford dealer in Kent is asking for planning permission to expand his business but says the actual work won't go ahead until the economic climate is more positive.

Haynes Ford has submitted plans for a two-storey extension to its Maidstone dealership's separate workshop building.

Once complete, it would be home to a call centre, offices and a reception area.

“However, our feeling – and the feeling we get from other business leaders – is that increasing interest rate hikes and the threat of recession are putting most business growth plans on hold and we are no exception," managing director James Broadley told KentOnline.

“While we are applying for planning permission to extend our commercial vehicle workshop, we will not be implementing the work until the economic situation stabilises and becomes clearer.”
