Hippo Motor Group has expanded its UK footprint by opening a new dealership in Peterborough, taking over the former Big Motoring World location in Werrington.

Now trading under a soft launch ahead of a full opening in mid-June, the site is part of Hippo’s strategy to grow its national retail presence.

The Blackburn-based group currently retails over 10,000 vehicles a year and generates £180 million in annual turnover.

Tom Preston. Hippo chief executive, said: “We’re building for the future.

“Peterborough gives us the space, the location, and the opportunity to grow – not just in sales, but in how we support our customers and our people.

"We’ve got a strong team, a clear vision, and the ambition to do things better.

"We’re excited to be up and running and ready to welcome the local community.”

Tom Stanton has been appointed general manager of the site, which is backed by Hippo’s £3 million prep centre in Blackburn.

More than 30 new roles are being recruited across sales, service and aftersales as the business looks to build a strong local team and deliver consistent, high-quality standards.

Big Motoring World decided to consolidate its two dealerships in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, into one site to gain efficiencies last year.

It concentrated its operations in the city to its Fengate location, with the Werrington staff retained and relocating to its sole Peterborough site.
