The UK Automotive 30% Club has revealed Volkswagen Group UK will sponsor its fourth annual Inspiring Automotive Women (IAW) Day 2019.
IAW Day has been designed as an outreach event to inspire or female pupils from across the UK to consider careers in the automotive industry.
Previously, Jardine Motors was headline sponsor for 30% Club's Speakers for Schools initiative in 2017, which saw six of the company's directors address school children.
Hosted at the Volkswagen Group UK’s National Learning Centre in Milton Keynes on May 3, the day event will host 100 female secondary school pupils aged 12-15 from across the UK, as they listen to talks from over 40 IWA volunteers.
Auto30 Club has already secured support from: VWG, Auto Trader, Jardine Motors Group, Inchcape, JCT600, Lookers Group, Toyota, Volvo and Kia.
Volkswagen Group UK’s managing director, Alex Smith, said: “Inspiring girls at a young age to consider the breadth of careers in the automotive industry is vital to achieving longer term diversity in our organisation.
"Developing and keeping them is key, but if we don’t have that pipeline of young talent, we’ll never move the needle for good.
“Initiatives such as the Inspiring Automotive Women Day are a great way to kick off the search.”
Founded in 2016, The UK Automotive 30% Club aims to fill 30% of key leadership positions with women by 2030, and IWA Day aims to “spread the word” about the motor trade’s career opportunities for women.
