6 Swan song: Kia's fourth-generation Sportage was the UK's best-selling car in January 2022

Kia has announced prices for the facelifted Sportage, starting at £1,500 more than the previous model.

It pairs an updated exterior and interior design with new safety and infotainment technologies, as well as efficient new powertrains.

The car’s all-new EcoDynamics+ 48v diesel mild-hybrid powertrain is the first to be launched as part of Kia’s global powertrain electrification strategy.

The line-up of petrol engines remains the same, though with minor modifications to emissions. The naturally-aspirated 131PS 1.6-litre GDi engine now offers CO2 emissions from 162g/km.

A turbocharged T-GDi version delivers 176PS with a 0-60mph time of 8.9 seconds. CO2 emissions are 173g/km, with fuel economy up to 39.2mpg.

The Sportage’s existing 1.7-litre CRDi diesel engine has been replaced with Kia’s new 1.6-litre engine. It produces 115PS or 135PS, with emissions rated from 130g/km for 115PS models, and 126g/km for higher-powered models.

There is also a new 2.0-litre ‘R’ diesel mild-hybrid powertrain, which supplements acceleration with power from a compact 48-volt battery, and extends engine off time.

If the battery has sufficient charge, the combustion engine turns off automatically during in-gear deceleration and braking, to increase fuel efficiency.

Base models come as standard with 16-inch alloy wheels, a leather-trimmed steering wheel and gearshifter, all-round electric windows, air conditioning, DAB, Bluetooth with voice recognition, automatic light control, and reversing camera.

Grade 2 offers 17-inch alloy wheels, a seven-inch touch-screen sat-nav system, reversing sensors, automatic wipers, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, dual automatic air conditioning, heated front seats and the Lane-Keep Assist System.

Grade 4 models feature an eight-inch touchscreen, panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, Smart Entry system, heated steering wheel, 360-degree around view monitor, premium sound system and LED bi-function headlights.

To celebrate 25 years of the Kia Sportage, a special Edition 25 grade is available from launch and paired exclusively with the 1.6 GDi engine with manual transmission. Specification is based on the grade 4.

GT-Line sits in the range between grades 2 and 4 and has sporty styling flourishes which mark it out as a more dynamic version of the Sportage.

GT-Line S features adaptive cruise control, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, Smart Power Tailgate and a wireless phone charger.
