Omoda and Jaecoo sold 1,677 Super Hybrid System (SHS) vehicles in May across its network of over 70 dealerships, spurring on the brands' decision to bring more of its plug-in hybrid models to the UK before the end of 2025.

Victor Zhang, UK country director, Omoda and Jaecoo UK, said the success of the SHS is showing there is a clear indication of increased consumer appetite for plug-in hybrid technology in the UK.

In May, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) recorded that plug-in hybrid registrations rose by 51% year-on-year and captured 12% of the total UK market share.

While this was below the 22% share for battery electric vehicles in May, it still highlights the importance of a varied model range across different powertrain types.

First introduced in the UK with the Jaecoo 7 SHS in January this year, the SHS is now also available in the newly launched Omoda 9 SHS.

Unlike conventional plug-in hybrids, the self-charging Super Hybrid System ensures the battery never drops to zero charge.

It can also be plugged in and accommodate fast charging speeds of up to 70 kW, depending on the model variant.

The Jaecoo 7 SHS, which makes up 70% of all sales for the model, has a WLTP-rated range of up to 745 miles, 56 of which is EV-only.

The recently-launched flagship Omoda 9 offers up to 93 miles of pure electric range and a combined range of over 700 miles WLTP.

The Omoda 7 SHS and Jaecoo 5 SHS compact SUVs are expected to launch before the September plate-change later this year.
