Automotive data integration specialist One Auto API has appointed former Cazoo and Cazana vehicle data expert Rupert Pontin as its new commercial director.

The business, launched earlier this year, aims to deliver a simpler and faster solution to the potentially complex process of integrating business-critical data feeds for fleet, retail and other automotive service providers.

Pontin has been recruited after rapid growth in its first four months of trading highlighted a need to focus on supporting the innovation ambitions of customers, the business said.

Mark Fretwell, the chief executive of One Auto API, said: "Growth has been fast, necessitating immediate investment to support our customers' commercial ambitions so we are delighted to appoint a commercial director of Rupert's calibre.

"He brings considerable expertise to this newly created role, which is designed to help our customers identify opportunities for innovation."

In his new role Pontin will help One Auto API's customers to gain commercial advantage at a time of market disruption by identifying opportunities for risk management and business process improvement.

Speaking exclusively to AM last month the former Cazoo, Cazana, AutoVista and BCA employee said that Cazoo’s acquisition of used car valuations provider Cazana left a “gap in the market”.

The comments came after the Vehicle Remarketing Association’s (VRA) deputy chair was made redundant from the business re-named as Cazoo Data Services and its whole-market data offering was withdrawn from a growing client base following its £25 million acquisition by the online car retailer in September last year.

Commenting on his appointment with One Auto API, Pontin said: "This is an exciting moment to join a high-growth business, offering genuinely new commercial opportunities to the industry.

“I'm looking forward to playing a key role in the success of One Auto API and our customers."
