A new-look Daewoo Matiz has gone on sale with the promise of a 1.0-litre engine from the middle of 2001. The facelifted model, which retains the 796cc three-cylinder engine and SE and SEPlus trim, is priced £6,595 and £7,295.

##New Matiz--left--Facelifted Matiz## In just over two years, 32,000 Matiz have been sold by Daewoo UK. The new front looks a little like VW's Lupo, with the previously plain, rounded bonnet gaining recessed housings for the oval headlamps.

Other cosmetic changes include new door moulding strips designed to provide better protection.

The biggest change at the rear has been the relocation of the licence plate area from the bumper to the tailgate, which now has a proper handle.

The rear bumper features a larger scratch-resistant black moulding strip.
