A used car supermarket boss has offered a £20,000 reward for any information that leads to a conviction or return of "more than a dosen" vehicles stolen in a raid on his Sheffield forecourt.

Steve King, from The Car Megastores on Penistone Road, Wadsley Bridge, made the bid to get his cars back after his facility was raided within four days of a near-identical incident at the nearby Deepcar Motor Company, on Manchester Road.

Thieves stole vehicles worth £200,000 from The Car Megastore overnight between October 2 and October 3 after breaking through security gates, shutters and a window before ‘completely ransacking’ the business, The Sheffield Star newspaper reported.

King said that the “gang” had targeted the best vehicles, adding: “Ironically, I’d heard about the break-in at the other dealership the day before.”

Deepcar Motor Company owner, Emil Berek, was left with a near-empty forecourt when 14 cars worth £120,000 were stolen from inside his showroom in an overnight raid in the early hours of October 30.

Berek said: “They must have bussed the thieves here because there must have been at least 14 people involved in this.”

King’s comments about the raid on his business in his interview echoed those of Berek. He said: “It has got to be an organised gang, they knew what they were doing.

“They came back two times to ferry vehicles around three or four at a time.”

King’s family-run business employs six staff and has been open for 21 years but has been forced to close in the aftermath of the raid.

The Sheffield Star reported that South Yorkshire Police were examining CCTV footage of the raid.
