Peugeot dealers are being encouraged to target older cars for servicing through the carmaker's 3-Plus initiative. The sector has become dominated by fast-fit and independent operators, but Peugeot believes 3-Plus will help dealers to claw back lost business from cars that fall outside its three-year warranty scheme.

Dealers have been allowed to ignore the older car market, concentrating on servicing warranty cars but carmakers are now encouraging them to take a greater interest to boost profits from parts sales.

Charles Greenland, Peugeot service and parts director, said: “We are aware that many owners look for lower-priced servicing once their cars are over three years old.

However, what seems a service bargain can prove a false economy.

“This initiative means that owners don't have to sacrifice the quality and security of having their car maintained by a Peugeot dealership in order to save money. Our dealers are assured a continuing customer relationship, ongoing service business and the opportunity to sell parts and possibly another new car at a future date.” 3-Plus servicing prices start from £69.99.
