Car buyers who paid list price for a new car in January 2004 year could lose as much as 65% or as little as 9% of their vehicle’s value in 12 months.

The highest depreciator of 2004 is the Proton Wira, falling from a list price of over £8,000 to a trade value of under £3,000, according to WiseBuyer’s Guides.

The worst performer in the executive segment is the Hyundai Sonata, losing 64% of its original list price in 12 months, as did the Suzuki Alto 1.1 GL Auto (although WiseBuyer notes Suzuki dealers offer generous discounts on new cars, which can distort the depreciation figures), while the Perodua Kelisa, 1.0 EZ Auto lost 60% of its value from new.

The vehicle losing the least in depreciation this year has been the Volvo XC90 sports/executive 4x4, which has lost less than a tenth of its value, closely followed by the BMW X5 at 11%.
