Two consortia of private-equity firms has submitted competitive offers to buy Hertz, Ford’s rental subsidiary.

Its sale was mooted in Ford’s last quarterly report to investors.

The offers, said to be for as much as $10bn (£5.4bn) including debt, were both reportedly submitted late on August 31, although neither Ford nor either bidder has yet to comment.

Ford is said to be considering the proposals and is expected to decide whether to sell Hertz or opt for a flotation.
