The Peugeot 607 line-up has been strengthened with the addition of a new engine, a Euro IV, 170bhp 2.2 litre twin turbo-charged HDi diesel. The power plant produces 170bhp at 4,000rpm and a maximum torque of 277lb-ft produced at 1,500 rpm.

The use of sequential twin parallel turbochargers is a world first on a four-cylinder diesel car. The system consists of two identical, small-diameter turbochargers.

At low engine speeds, a single turbocharger ensures engine responsiveness. It is then supported by a second turbocharger, which starts to operate in parallel between 2,600 and 3,200rpm according to the applied load and atmospheric conditions.

The entire range of engine speeds is therefore covered. The system is controlled entirely by the engine’s electronic control unit (ECU).

With the introduction of the new HDi engine, the 607 range now includes three engine options – 2.0 litre 136bhp HDi, 2.2 litre 170bhp HDi and a 3.0 litre V6 petrol engine. These engines are all available in a single trim level – Executive.

  • Peugeot has trimmed the 206 range to just one specification, the Look. Out goes the Urban, Verve and Sport models, but the remaining model comes with enhanced spec over the 206 Urban: 60/40 split rear seat, front fog lights, body coloured door handles, silver grey instrument dials, sport front bumper, body coloured bumpers, body coloured side rubbing strips and a chrome exhaust pipe. The 206 Look goes on sale in October. The 206 SW and CC models remain unchanged.
