PSA Peugeot Citroen and Proton have signed ‘Letter of Intent’ to study possible co-operation between the two manufacturers.

PSA CEO Jean-Martin Folz and Proton managing director Syed Zainal Abidin Bin Syed Mohamed Tahir signed the agreement in Paris today.

The study, which is expected to last several months, will focus on areas such as product development, manufacturing, quality initiatives, vendor development, contract assembly and distribution.

The outcome of the brainstorming will be to offer benefits to both parties in the ASEAN region (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Cambodia).

Proton wants to take advantage of PSAs technological expertise. PSA wants to increase sales of Peugeot and Citroen vehicles in Malaysia and serve as a foundation for developing business in the ASEAN region.
