How did you get in to the automotive business?
I went straight from school to be a trainee salesperson with a Volvo dealership in Newcastle.

What does your job entail?
Achieving objectives; meeting unit targets for new and used vehicles; profitability for new and used vehicles; profitability for service and parts; and achieving added value products objectives.

How will your job change over the next few years?
It will be more IT driven and much more involved in terms of database sharing with preferred partners. We’re also looking to work more with the local community. At the moment we’re dealing with Children North-East, a charity working with underprivileged kids.

Management development and consultancy in various sectors.

What advice would you give to young people planning to join the industry?
Start young and work hard.

What’s the worst career move you’ve ever made?
Buying a pub in 1988.

Selling the pub in 1989.

As present with some consultancy work.
