The partnership behind Cardiff-based multi-brand dealership James and Jenkins has ended after 27 years, with former director Ken Jenkins leaving to set up a business with his son Russell.

Jenkins will open a new Suzuki dealership in Cardiff in October, having purchased the franchise from his former business partner. James and Jenkins will retain its Renault and Vauxhall franchises and continue to trade at the same site with the same name.

Following the sale of its Suzuki franchise, the company is investing £2m into its site in Llandaff North over the next 12 months. Planned changes include a redesign and extension of the showroom and display facilities, as well as a refit of the workshop and new sales area for its Charter Vehicle Hire rental business.

The investment will also allow for its entire staff of technicians to undergo manufacturer-backed training, allowing the workshop to better service a wider range of cars.

The dealership is also expected to add a further marque to its line up before the end of the year, creating an extra 10 jobs and contributing to the planned 50% increase in sales volume in the next 12 months.

Managing director Mark James said: “In the next 12 months, James and Jenkins garages is taking a huge step forward in all areas of our activities. It’s one of the most exciting periods in the history of this family-owned business, and offers a fantastic opportunity for the team to compete with the best and achieve over 2,000 vehicle sales in the next calendar year.”
