An online business is targeting the nine in 10 drivers with cars under three years old who take their vehicles to franchised dealerships to take them to independent garages instead.

Ben Durkin, managing director of Car Service Direct, said: "There is no longer any need to return to dealers in order to maintain manufacturer's warranties. A European directive was passed four years ago removing the tie, but many motorists are still unaware of this."

The business's web site, here, explains block exemption and offers a searchable nationwide network of independent garages.

Previous customers rate the garages, and feedback comments are encouraged. The garages are vetted, and each agrees a code of practice which includes offering 'jargon-free' advice.

"Our garage network members may not have multi-million pound 'glass showrooms' and workshops hidden out of sight behind lavish receptions. What the garages do offer are years of experience and expertise, excellent customer service skills and good old fashioned value for money."
