Peter Vardy has acquired its second Vauxhall dealership in Scotland.

The company, which was established last June when it took over Perth Vauxhall, has bought its second site in Motherwell, acquiring the Reg Vardy operation from Pendragon.

Peter Vardy, chief executive said: “We are delighted to have acquired Motherwell Vauxhall. The manufacturer approached us to take it over based on our success in Perth over the last 10 months, and all credit goes to our team who are building a formidable reputation in our industry.

“The Motherwell business has not been operating to its full potential so we know there is an opportunity to build a great business there. We have inherited a fantastic team who are enthusiastic about making sure the dealership fulfils its promise once the improvements we are planning are completed.”

The dealership will be known as Peter’s Car Company, a division of Peter Vardy established for legal reasons.

The company will be building a new showroom on the current site, which will be open by the end of the year. The existing showroom will remain open while the work is being carried out.

A new company headquarters will also be built on the Airbles Road site.

Vardy added: “We have family connections in Motherwell – my mother and her family are from the town – so it’s great that we’re building our flagship dealership and HQ facility here.”

The dealership expects to increase its team from 28 to around 40 and is recruiting now for sales executives, technicians and administrators.

Steve Gould, a former general manager with Reg Vardy, has joined the company as a managing partner and will own a share in the Motherwell business.

He said: “I’m delighted to once again be working with the Vardy family and to be part of a business that puts its people – colleagues and customers – above profit.

“The Peter Vardy managing partner programme is unique in our industry. There are no other opportunities like this that offer people like me a chance to invest in their own business and to have a stake in their future.”

Later this summer Peter Vardy will open a third Vauxhall business in Scotland, a new dealership in Kirkcaldy.

John Cuthbertson, a former regional director for the East of Scotland with Reg Vardy, has joined the company as a managing partner to run the Kirkcaldy dealership.

Ian Barrie has also joined from Reg Vardy as divisional aftersales manager for the Vauxhall operations.

The announcement in Motherwell comes after Peter Vardy Vauxhall in Perth was recognised with an award from Vauxhall for achieving the biggest market share for the manufacturer in the east of Scotland.
