From time to time we get involved in ’encouraging’ manufacturers to honour warranties when cars have been sold through independent dealers.

Sadly, the non-franchised dealer ‘card’ still seems to make them reticent about processing claims.

In a recent case a car sold by one of our clients had 14 days to go on the manufacturer’s warranty.

A con-rod appeared through the side of the engine so we’re talking about an expensive repair.

Alarm bells began to ring for our clients with a potential claim for selling a car of unsatisfactory quality coming his way.

The manufacturer asked that the car be taken to a franchise dealer.

Unfortunately the manufacturer’s warranty processing department had computer problems and by the time the computer was up and running again the franchise dealer had gone bankrupt!

The car was then taken to another dealer but the manufacturer then played the ‘out of warranty’ card.

However, through endeavours by Lawgistics, we actually persuaded them to collect the car, put a brand new engine in, return it, pay for recovery charges and supply a replacement car while the repairs were carried out.
