A networking group for redundant automotive professionals has held its first meeting.

The new not-for-profit initiative set up by recruitment company Southgate Consultancy offers laid-off middle and senior management a chance to discuss issues they face.

There is also advice from professionals on how to create an impactful CV, building a network of contacts, the unadvertised job market and approaching interviews and assessment centres.

Ten people met at the first meeting and future monthly meetings are full until the new year.

David Southgate, Southgate Consultancy managing director, said: “The market is making it very difficult for people to get into work and it is a soul-destroying existence applying for jobs.

“I wanted to get people away from home and talking to like-minded individuals.

“My aim is that by organising these informal, non-profit networking meetings we can provide a positive and supportive forum for those individuals who are struggling in the current employment climate,” said Southgate.
