A service level agreement for MOT testing is being drafted so MOT stations know what to expect when Vehicles and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) carry out enforcement and inspections at their premises.

In its early stages, the draft if being put together with Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF) and will also cover the standards that RMIF will encourage its members to adopt.

The MoT Trade Forum have has also been invited to comment. The full working group with VOSA for the service level agreement consists of the VTS Council (Vehicle Testing Station Council), the RMIF and the SMTA.

RMIF has already been a signatory to similar agreements with VOSA relating to Heavy Goods Vehicle Testing and Enforcement.

Stephen Coles, Head of MOT operations, said: “The MOT station has always had written obligations to VOSA in respect of the operation of their test station, however VOSA’s obligations to the test station are very few.

He added: “We hope that the Service Level Agreement will redress this imbalance and help the partnership between the MOT Station and VOSA to grow.”
