Swansway Group is to spend £600,000 on an upgrade at one of its Honda showrooms in Greater Manchester.

The family-run business is to extend its showroom and workshops at its dealership on Queensway, Rochdale, where it employs 25 staff.

The project will take Swansway's spending in Greater Manchester to more than £5m since it acquired three Honda sites in autumn 2010.

Crewe-based Swansway has spent £3.5 million on its dealership in Stretford and £1m on a refurbishment of its site in Stockport in the past 18 months.

Swansway currently has 16 across Greater Manchester, Cheshire, north Wales, Staffordshire and Lancashire.

Swansway added to its portfolio last month with the acquisition of a Land Rover showroom in Stafford for £2m.

Chairman Michael Smyth said the group may seek to buy more dealerships in Greater Manchester.

“If the right opportunity comes along, we will grab it with both hands,” he said.
